Resolutions

With the dawn of a new year, I began to ponder the idea of resolutions.  Typically, I am not one to make outlandish resolutions, like running every day, or staying on top of all of my assignments, or losing 50 pounds, or calling each and every friend each and every day or week.  I find that resolutions are really just grandiose ideas that end up falling by the wayside.  So while I did make a resolution for 2011, I decided to make it more of a philosophy for living this year, something that I would not end up breaking.

My resolution is based on the journey I have been on over the course of the past eighteen months or so.  From leaving teaching, to applying to graduate school, to moving to Los Angeles, it has been, at times, a difficult and winding road.  Many times I felt as if I was climbing uphill, other times were a wild ride, and yet in the end, I ended up coasting for much of the journey.

Now I'm sure you are wondering a few things, like:

1.  Why blog?  I hope the blog ends up being a fun way to follow my journey whether I am a few miles or states away from you.  I hope it will bring laughter to your day and keep you updated on this crazy thing called life...at least my life.

2.  How did you choose the title?  Ever a fan of Dr. Seuss, I reflected back on his last book, Oh, The Places You'll Go.  If you are unfamiliar with the book, please visit this site for the full text.

3.  What about your resolution?  Ah, yes, the resolution:

My resolution this year is to "Always Do What is Best."  Pause and think about that for a moment.  If you are resolved to running every day this year, think...is this what is best?  If you made the decision to stay in touch with your family and friends...is this best?  If you hope to lose those last 10 pesky pounds...is it best?

In every situation I am faced with making, I hope to pause and reflect before making my decision.  And I'll think...is this best?  I hope so.
